Terms of service.

Effective October 12, 2026

Welcome to Roll. These terms are the rules of the road. We’ve kept them readable on purpose, but they’re still a legal agreement, so please read them.

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Roll iPhone app (the “App”) and the website at rollweekly.com (the “Site”), together the “Service,” operated by Roll (“we,” “our,” “us”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use Roll.

What Roll is

Roll is friends-only social media. You can post text, photos, and videos (up to 12 photos or videos per post, as often as you like), and only your mutual friends can see them. There are no followers, no public profiles, no ads, and no algorithm. The feed shows your friends’ posts, newest first. Replies go to private messages. Appreciates are private, and there are no public counts.

We may change, add, or remove features as Roll evolves. We’ll tell you about significant changes.

Who can use Roll

To use Roll, you must:

  • Be at least 13 years old (and, if you’re under the age of majority where you live, have your parent or guardian’s permission);
  • Create an account with a valid email address, phone number, Apple account, or Google account;
  • Give us accurate information and be who you say you are;
  • Not have been previously banned from Roll, or be legally barred from using it.

Your account

You’re responsible for your account and everything done through it. Keep your sign-in secure, and tell us right away at support@rollweekly.com if you think someone else has accessed it.

Usernames are 3 to 20 characters and unique. We may reclaim usernames that are misleading, impersonate someone, or break these Terms. You may have only one account, and you may not create additional accounts to get around a suspension, a block, or any limit in the App.

Your content and what you let us do with it

You own your content. That includes your posts, photos, videos, profile, and messages. Roll doesn’t claim ownership of any of it.

To run Roll, we need your permission to handle your content. By posting or sending it, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, process (for example, compress, resize, and make thumbnails), and display it, solely as needed to operate the Service: showing your posts and page to your mutual friends, and delivering your messages to the people you send them to.

This license is narrow on purpose. We won’t use your content for advertising or marketing, we won’t sell it, we won’t make it public, and we won’t use it to train AI models. The license ends when you delete the content or your account, except that (a) messages you’ve sent can remain in the recipient’s conversation until unsent, and (b) copies may persist briefly in backups, as described in the Privacy Policy.

You’re responsible for what you post. You promise that you have the right to post it, and that it doesn’t violate these Terms or anyone else’s rights. Other people’s posts belong to them, so don’t copy or share them outside Roll without their permission.

Friends, appreciates, and messages

  • Mutual friends only. A friendship requires both people to accept. You can remove a friend any time, and when you do, you each lose access to the other’s posts.
  • Friend cap. You can have up to 500 friends. The cap is deliberate, and it’s not something to work around.
  • Blocking. You can block anyone. Blocking removes them from your friends and they can’t add you back. They aren’t notified.
  • Appreciates. Appreciates are private: only the author of a post sees who appreciated it, and Roll doesn’t show counts.
  • Messages. Replies to posts go to private messages. Don’t send messages that break these Terms, and don’t forward other people’s private messages in ways they wouldn’t expect.

Screenshot protection

Roll blocks screenshots and screen recordings of its content, so they come out blank. This is a feature of the App, not a legal or technical guarantee. iOS can’t prevent someone from photographing a screen with another device, and we can’t promise that nothing you share will ever be copied. Share accordingly.

You agree not to circumvent, disable, or work around screenshot protection, and not to photograph, record, or otherwise capture another person’s Roll content with another device in order to keep or distribute it.

What’s not allowed

Roll is for you and your friends. When you use it, you agree not to:

  • Harass or threaten. No harassment, bullying, stalking, threats, or hate directed at people for who they are.
  • Post nudity or sexual content. No nudity, pornography, or sexually explicit material. Sexual content involving minors is illegal, prohibited, and will be reported to the authorities.
  • Post illegal or harmful content. That includes content that is unlawful, violent, defamatory, or that promotes self-harm.
  • Spam. No unsolicited or repetitive messages, chain messages, or mass friend requests.
  • Impersonate. No pretending to be another person, or misrepresenting who you are.
  • Run brands or advertise. No commercial, brand, business, or influencer accounts, and no advertising, promotion, sponsored content, or selling through Roll.
  • Get around the rules. No circumventing screenshot protection, the friend cap, blocks, or other limits.
  • Scrape or automate. No scraping, crawling, data collection, or using bots, scripts, or other automated tools to access, post, message, or interact.
  • Attack the Service. No reverse engineering, decompiling, tampering with, or interfering with Roll, and no trying to access other people’s accounts or data.
  • Infringe. No content that infringes someone else’s intellectual property or privacy rights.

Reporting, blocking, and moderation

Roll has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Tap ••• on any post or profile to report or block. Reports are reviewed, and we aim to act on every report within 24 hours. We may remove content, warn you, suspend your account, or terminate it when we think these Terms have been broken, and we may report illegal activity to the authorities.

If you think we made the wrong call, email support@rollweekly.com and we’ll take another look.

Copyright and other IP complaints

If you believe content on Roll infringes your copyright or other intellectual property rights, email support@rollweekly.com with:

  • Your name and contact information;
  • A description of the work you say is infringed;
  • Where the content appears on Roll (such as the username and post);
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn’t authorized by the owner, its agent, or the law;
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner; and
  • Your physical or electronic signature.

We’ll review valid notices and remove content where appropriate. If you believe your content was removed by mistake, you can send us a counter-notice at the same address. We terminate the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.

Our property

The Roll name, logo, design, and the App itself belong to us. You may not use our branding without written permission, except to talk about Roll in the ordinary way, like telling your friends about it. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.

Cost

Roll is free. It has no ads. If that ever changes, we’ll tell you first.

Ending your account

You can delete your account whenever you like at Settings > Delete account. That removes your profile, posts, media, appreciates, and friendships, as described in the Privacy Policy, including the current limit on messages you’ve already sent.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you break these Terms, if we’re required to by law, or if your account puts other people at risk. When we can, we’ll tell you why. We may not be able to if it would compromise someone’s safety or an investigation.

Disclaimers

Roll is provided “as is” and “as available.” We work hard to keep it running, but we can’t promise that it will always be available, free of bugs, or that your content will never be lost. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We’re also not responsible for what other users post or do. Roll is built around people you know, but we can’t control how those people behave.

Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Roll and the people behind it aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, content, profits, or connections, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, which, since Roll is free, is zero. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you in full.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in California, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms. When we make a material change, we’ll post the new version here, update the effective date above, and let you know in the App or by email where appropriate. If you keep using Roll after a change, you accept the updated Terms. If you don’t accept them, you can delete your account.
